These are 9 results this index has recorded from Heritage Auctions between 2015 and 2025, not every sale that happened. They under-represent inexpensive items, which sell constantly and are reported rarely, and they exclude private sales this index has no record of. Read them as documented evidence rather than as a complete market.

What does a signed Winston Churchill item cost?
Less than his fame might suggest. A signed envelope sold for $660, a framed cut with a photograph for $1,020 and a signed letter to a friend about wine for $1,320. The dearest certified items on this page sold for between three and five thousand dollars, led by a signed cheque at $4,800.
Does the autograph grade make a difference?
It seems to. A cut graded Gem Mint 10 for its autograph by PSA/DNA sold for $4,331, and a photograph and a postcard with Beckett autograph grades of 10 and 9 sold for $3,090 and $3,160. Ungraded cut signatures in framed displays sold for $1,020 and $1,440. These are different items sold years apart, so the gap is a guide rather than a rule.
Why did a cheque sell for more than his letters?
A signed Churchill cheque made $4,800 in 2015, at the same Goldin sale where a signed 1954 letter made $2,160. A cheque carries a full signature and has passed through a bank, which is part of why collectors trust them. We look at that in the most reliable autograph you can buy is a cancelled cheque.
Signatures are reproduced more often than most buyers realise, by outright forgery and also by machines and assistants signing on somebody’s behalf. Every item on this page has been examined by PSA/DNA, JSA, Beckett, SGC or CGC, and this index carries nothing else. That is a deliberate restriction, and the investigation that created the modern authentication industry is worth reading, along with what a certificate actually claims.
