These are 12 results this index has recorded from Heritage Auctions between 2017 and 2026, not every sale that happened. They under-represent inexpensive items, which sell constantly and are reported rarely, and they exclude private sales this index has no record of. Read them as documented evidence rather than as a complete market.

What does a signed Richard Nixon item cost?
On the whole, less than for any other president on this index. Most of his certified results sold for under five hundred dollars: a bookplate for $138, a signed photograph for $196, a first edition of one of his books for $163. His three signed baseballs made between $287 and $842. The dearest thing on the page, by far, is connected with his resignation. For comparison, a certified Eisenhower letter sold for $684 and Kennedy's letters for between about $1,400 and $3,600.
Why does his resignation letter outsell everything else?
Because it is the one thing only he could sign. On 9 August 1974 Nixon resigned with a one-sentence letter to the Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger: "I hereby resign the Office of President of the United States." He is the only president to have resigned. A signed copy of that letter made $780, and a signed resignation letter in a framed White House display made $3,900, the most of anything on this page. Collectors are paying for the event, not the signature.
When did he sign his baseballs?
After he left office, judging by the balls themselves. An official league ball carries the name of the league president of the day. Nixon's carry the names of Bobby Brown, American League president from 1984, and Bart Giamatti, National League president from 1986, both well after his resignation, and Lee MacPhail, whose term began shortly before Nixon left office. Unlike Truman's baseballs, which sell for many times his letters, Nixon's sell for only a few hundred dollars.
Signatures are reproduced more often than most buyers realise, by outright forgery and also by machines and assistants signing on somebody’s behalf. Every item on this page has been examined by PSA/DNA, JSA, Beckett, SGC or CGC, and this index carries nothing else. That is a deliberate restriction, and the investigation that created the modern authentication industry is worth reading, along with what a certificate actually claims.
